Associated Grocers gives student employees scholarships

Edwin Lewis and wife, Gwen have owned the Associated Grocers (AG) store and GEL Enterprises, for the last eight years and in that time they have given out over seventy scholarships to students who have worked for their company and have graduated from high school. Many have used the skills they were taught while working at A.G., to go on to become successful in their adult lives.

Odies “Red” Perry retires from the County

Odies “Red” Perry was presented by the Bullock County Commissioners with a recognition of retirement for his commitment of service and being a most trustworthy employee of Bullock County for thirty-one years during the Bullock County Commissioners Meeting on May 14, 2024. “I just want to thank everyone that has helped me and gave me advice throughout the thirty-one years I have been with the county. I especially want to thank Commissioner Perry for seeing something in me and giving me the push I needed to get started. I feel like I have done my bit.

Randolph Hall Re-Appointed to State Board

Mr. Randolph Hall was recently reappointed as the Resident Director for Bullock County on the Board of Directors of the Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow Rivers Watershed Management Authority. Probate Judge James Tatum administered the Oath of Office February 5, 2025, at a ceremony held at the Bullock Court House. He has served on the board since September 2006.

Promotion ceremonies held throughout Bullock County Schools

As the school year comes to an end, not only will the seniors have their graduation day, but there’s big days for other Bullock County Schools students as promotions across the school district begin. The kindergarten classes will be promoted to the first grade and fourth graders will leave elementary school with their promotion to the fifth grade. Finally eighth graders will be promoted to the ninth grade starting high school in the fall.

National Older Americans Day celebrated at local Armory

Several older Bullock County residents were present to celebrate National Older Americans Day on Friday, May 10 at the Richard B. Stone Complex in Union Springs. The celebration was hosted by Bullock County Commission Chairman Alonza Ellis, Jr. with festivities beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until 12:30 p.m. Lunch was provided by Associated Grocers to attendees.

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the week!

Introducing, “Brollie and Beige,” two awesome boys that are looking for a home together. Both kitties have been neutered, are up to date on rabies/vaccines, and tested negative for FIV, FELV, and Heartworm. They are “house cats’’ that would be ok with occasional supervised trips to the yard. They are super sweet boys and will fit in nicely in a home with another kitty or even a non aggressive doggie.

A deeper look at what our society has become,  I Testify Life is Forever, a new book by Curtis Malcolm Monroe Sr., has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc. and is a collection of works from one Black man's experience growing up in the Deep South of Alabama. A powerful look into the Deep South Black community and racial tensions, Curtis Malcolm Monroe Sr. 's prose and verse provide a raw, real perspective on the state of America and the lack of liberty and justice for all.

Local 4-H Senior Awarded Alabama 4-H Foundation Scholarship

The Bullock County 4-H Program is proud to announce that Alexis Larkins, a senior at Conecuh Springs Christian School and dedicated member of our 4-H club, has been honored with the prestigious Alabama 4-H Foundation Scholarship Award. This esteemed recognition comes with a $1,000 scholarship, celebrating Alexis’ dedication to both academic excellence and community service.
