The event, held to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, was marked by vibrant celebrations and significant community engagement. It is a pleasure to celebrate freedom and to recognize the enduring spirit of liberty.

USPD seeking information in fatal shooting - $1,500 Cash Reward Offered

The Union Springs Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting and is seeking the public’s help with the identification of the suspect.

On Saturday, May 4, 2024, at about 12:44 a.m. Union Springs Police responded to the 100 block of Baskin Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, an 18-year-old male was located and found to have sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

DHR hosts Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Program

The Bullock County Department of Human Resources hosted its Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Program on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. Adult Protective Service Supervisor Juanita Smith welcomed those in attendance and Adult Protective Service Caseworker Whitley Golson provided the occasion and introduced Sierra Hall of the Alabama Securities Commission.

Black Belt Road Trip Photo Contest launches for summer 2024

The Alabama Black Belt Adventures Association (ALBBAA) is celebrating the summer vacation season with the inaugural Black Belt Road Trip Photo Contest.

ALBBAA wants to see photos showcasing the many attractions and activities available throughout the region, including outdoor recreation like fishing, hiking and bird watching, visiting cultural or historic sites, or enjoying the Black Belt’s lively art and food scene.

Meet Sultrine (left) and her best friend Trinity (right) featured back in March of this year. As Sultrine was quite shy when she arrived, we paired her up with Trinity who made her feel at ease and she has truly come out of her shell. Sultrine is calm-natured and a very loving girl. She has been spayed and is up to date on vaccines and rabies. She is looking for a loving home where she can get the attention she craves and deserves.

Another Inmate has died at Bullock Correctional Facility

Another inmate has tragically passed away at Bullock Correctional Facility in Union Springs, marking the seventh unexplained death at the facility within the last three months.

ADOC officials said inmate Michael Shane Dotson, 51, an Alabama Department of Corrections inmate from Morgan County, was found unresponsive in his cell at Bullock Correctional Facility on June 4, 2024. Mount was serving three 20-year concurrent sentences for Theft of Property.
