The Union Springs Police Department has been diligently working to keep the streets safe and maintain peace within the community. This week, officers reported a number of activities and enforcement actions.

Adams Angus Farm, Union Springs, ranked as the second largest in registering the most Angus beef cattle in Alabama with the American Angus Association® during fiscal year 2025, which ended Sept. 30, according to Mark McCully, Association chief executive officer.

On the first Friday of October, Bullock County Football was back in action after its bye week. They faced an area opponent, the Tigers of Handley High School. Handley came into the week with a 5-1 season record.

Bullock County native Janyiah Williams proudly represented her hometown at the “Let’s Take It to the Stadium Pt. 4” competition, one of the largest HBCU dance events in Birmingham. The event was held on Saturday, September 27, and brought together some of the most talented performers from across the region.

Union Springs is a town with a history, heart, and secrets. Near the old railroad tracks stands the last coal chute in the state, a towering concrete reminder of the trains, coal, and hard work that once fueled this community. Built between 1913 and 1925, it survived when nearly every other chute was torn down. It is more than concrete and steel. It is a symbol of what Union Springs was and what it can still be.
The Alabama National Fair may be happening nearby, but the Bullock County Schools Child Nutrition Program is bringing the excitement home! This week, we’re serving up “The Greatest Lunch on Earth” featuring fair-inspired foods, themed decorations, and plenty of smiles. Photo source Facebook.

The citizens of Union Springs made their voices heard on Tuesday, September 23, as they voted in a closely contested runoff election that decided two key leadership positions for the city.
Ronald “Llep” Smith was elected as the new Mayor of Union Springs, narrowly defeating mayoral candidate Brian Agnew by just six votes. The razor-thin margin underscored the importance of every ballot cast in shaping the city’s future.

Bullock County Schools recently came together for District-Wide Suicide Prevention Day, uniting students, faculty, staff, and parents in a powerful show of support. Dressed in purple, participants symbolized hope, strength, and compassion for those whose lives have been touched by suicide.
