Cattlemen’s Association holds Annual Dinner

The Bullock County Cattlemen’s Association held their Annual Dinner on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Greenway Sportsman Club located on Highway 223 in Union Springs, Alabama. Charlie Whetzel, President, gave the call to order at 6 p.m. and Rob Adams, owner of Adams Angus Farms, gave the Invocation.

Many of Bullock County’s Cattlemen and their families dined on a thick, juicy, Angus strip steaks, grilled to perfection by Greenway Sportsman Club, a mandarin orange-pecan-cranberry and baby spinach salad, cheddar-bacon mashed potatoes, dinner rolls, sweet tea or lemonade, and a slice of pound cake for dessert. While members were enjoying their meals, Charlie Whetzel recognized and gave thanks to this year’s sponsors.

Gold Level Sponsors included; Phillips Feed and Seed, Gunsmoke Ranch, LLC., Greenway Sportsman Club, and Nutrena. Silver Level Sponsors included; Dykes, Inc., Walking on the Moon Animal Hospital, Adams Angus Farms, Richard Meadows (Meadows Creek Farms), Mid-State Stockyards, LLP., and Dixie Electric. Bronze Level Sponsors included; South Alabama Stockyard, Inc., J&M Farms / Mix 30, Richard Meadows (W.B. Fleming Company), and AmeriFirst Bank. Megan Foose, Secretary / Treasurer, gave the Treasurer’s Report and the Membership update adding that the association had gained three new members at the dinner alone. Amanda Finlayson, Board Member, gave the Scholarship Update.

The Bullock County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship is for $2,000 and is available for seniors in high school, high school graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time accredited program at a two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school located in the State of Alabama for the upcoming academic year. The deadline is no later than June 1, 2023 for applicants. The guest speaker for the dinner was Micayla West of Auburn University. Ms. West gave a very informative presentation on Feed Alternatives for Cows and their Calves. Several door prizes were given away along with a few raffle prizes which included a smoker and a $250 gift certificate for an assorted beef basket from Adams Angus Farms.

The weather was perfect for this annual dinner and the members enjoyed the company kept by all who attended. The board was pleased to see this was one of their biggest turnouts in years with over 100 meals served.
