Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

At the Bullock County Humane Society, one special pup is winning hearts and waiting for a place to call home. Koda, a beautiful and extremely friendly female pit bull–type dog, has quickly become a favorite among volunteers, who adore her gentle nature and loving personality.

Beasley receives 2026 Distinguished Alumnus Award

Alabama Wildlife Center needs the public’s help to make the Wildlife Rehabilitation License Plate a reality

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With just two weeks left, Alabama Wildlife Center is in a final sprint to secure the last 300 pre-registrations needed to launch Alabama’s first-ever wildlife rehabilitation specialty car tag. Nearly 700 people have already signed up, but if the campaign does not reach 1,000 commitments by May 1, the tag will not be produced. The loss would be significant: the tag is expected to generate more than $40,000 annually for AWC’s wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and education programs.

Xavier “Zaybo” Jackson harvests rare 14-point buck

Xavier “Zaybo” Jackson harvested an impressive 14-point buck in February while hunting in “the pocket” area of Bullock County, proving he was in the right place at the right time.

Jackson had previously spotted the deer on his trail cameras and began feeding in the area to keep the buck nearby. His patience paid off when he finally had the opportunity to make the harvest.

Driver injured in MLK Boulevard crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Wednesday morning, April 8 on Martin Luther King Boulevard near the intersection of Hardaway Avenue and Martin Luther King Blvd. in Union Springs. According to reports, a white Toyota Tacoma rear-ended a white Nissan at approximately 10:20 a.m. The collision occurred in front of the Union Springs Telephone Company and Gray Funeral Home.

“GUD in the City” brings energy, business, and vision to Union Springs

Union Springs was full of energy on Saturday, April 11, as residents gathered for a day of activity, connection, and community pride. With sunny skies overhead, Genesis Unity Development (GUD) hosted its inaugural “GUD in the City” Small Business Saturday vendor fair, creating a festival-like atmosphere in the heart of downtown.

Union Springs Police Department reports weekly activity, honors officers

The Union Springs Police Department remained active in its efforts to keep the community safe, responding to incidents and continuing routine patrols throughout the city.

According to the department’s latest report, Cpl. Lewis handled one accident, while Sgt. Cummings recorded one incident/offense (I/O) report. Officers Penn and Harris reported no incidents during this period.

Officer Adamson reported one I/O case and issued four citations along with four written warnings.

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

Carnelo, a handsome yellow Lab mix, has been waiting patiently for a loving home since arriving at the Bullock County Humane Society on February 27, 2025. The sweet 2½-year-old pup is neutered, up to date on his rabies vaccination, and currently on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. He is heartworm positive, but remains a happy and friendly dog.
