Arrest made in connection to Tuskegee University shooting

MACON COUNTY – On Sunday, Nov. 10, law enforcement officers found Jaquez Myrick, 25, of Montgomery, in possession of a handgun with a machine gun conversion device. Myrick was found leaving the scene of the shooting that occurred on the campus of Tuskegee University. Myrick was arrested and charged federally with Possession of a Machine Gun.

Bullock County Humane Society pets of the week!

Did you know that the Bullock County Humane Society has royalty residing within it? Two Queens to be exact! Queen has been in the shelter the longest of any other pup, three years to be exact. Queen (2) has been in the shelter for almost two years. Queen is the epitome of royalty. She is sweet and playful. While Queen (2) is a young pup of two and a half years, who is very shy but will warm up to you once she gets to know you. Both ladies are up to date on their vaccines including their one year rabies vaccination. They are both good with other dogs and crave love and attention.

Death investigation continues while citizens remain concerned

On Saturday, Oct. 26, at approximately 3 a.m., Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched a death investigation at the request of the Union Springs Police Department. Agents responded to the 300 Block of Waugh Street in Union Springs where a shooting incident occurred involving multiple individuals. During the investigation, agents identified two deceased victims.

Halloween is a fantastic time of year and in Bullock County, it is done in a big way! The Chamber of Commerce holds an annual Trunk or Treat in front of the Bullock County Courthouse on Prairie Street which is accompanied by several small businesses contributing to the festivities.

Undergraduate and graduate students studying music can apply for the DAR Marian Anderson Legacy Scholarship starting November 1. Sponsored by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the scholarship provides a one-time $5,000 award to one student annually who is pursuing undergraduate or graduate study in music.

USES First Grade enjoyed Glow Hall Fall Festival Dance

First Graders at Union Springs Elementary School had a fantastic time during their Glow Hall Fall Festival Dance. While everyone was dressed up for Halloween, those in first grade were treated to darkened hallways lit up with glow sticks to make the glowing effect. The children danced to music as they enjoyed the festival.

Afterward, the students were able to pick a pumpkin out from the recreational area to take home with them.
