Levi Newsome, Union Springs, was awarded a scholarship by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians (PBCI) for his participation in Alabama’s livestock industry Saturday, March 19 at a ceremony held in coordination with the Southeastern Livestock Exposition (SLE) Rodeo.

Farmers and timber landowners work with the future in mind.
“I love knowing that my three kids watch calves be born and see the fish grow every year,” said Hale County farmer Townsend Kyser. “Farming is a great way for me and my wife, Kelly, to raise Laura, Will and Sam. It allows them to see what it takes for this world to work. My hope is that they are proud to grow up on the farm.”
Alabama’s original 1901 Constitution had a law whereby the governor could only serve one four-year term and not succeed themselves. In 1968, the law was changed and since then the governor and all other constitutional offices in the state can now serve two consecutive terms.
This one term and you are done, made for a very interesting, anticipated, and competitive governor’s race every four years. They could begin four years in advance in earnest, and they would begin.
On March 9th, the Wehle Nature Center in Midway was filled with fourth-grade students from Union Springs Elementary, Conecuh Springs Christian Academy, and Macon East Academy, their teachers and volunteers for the 2023 Groundwater Festival hosted by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System/Bullock County Cooperative Extension.
I was in the fast food restaurant Slim Chickens a few months ago and there were two employees on break in a booth next to the table where my friend and I were sitting. My friend, Coach Bolware looked at me as we both could not help but overhear the inappropriate and vulgar conversation coming from the booth. One of the individuals appeared to be an adult supervisor and the other a teenage worker. They were loud and unprofessional.

When it comes to social media, we find ourselves listening and listening and listening. We often spend hours on social media listening to sixty seconds edits of podcasts and other forms of media. How often are we actively listening to information that makes us better or encourages others? There is so much media to consume because it costs us nothing to post or discuss.

Saturday, March 11, 2023 was the perfect day for a car show. The weather was nice and it seemed as though most of Bullock County was present for the event. Vehicle enthusiasts from all over Alabama and Georgia participated.
One gentleman, Mr. Sylvestor Cunningham, won the Furthest Distance Award for traveling from Hephzibah, Georgia, which is over five hours away from Union Springs.
