Saturday, March 11, 2023 was the perfect day for a car show. The weather was nice and it seemed as though most of Bullock County was present for the event. Vehicle enthusiasts from all over Alabama and Georgia participated.
One gentleman, Mr. Sylvestor Cunningham, won the Furthest Distance Award for traveling from Hephzibah, Georgia, which is over five hours away from Union Springs.
The 8th Annual Cruising to Clothe a Child charity event is sponsored by the Wild Hoggs Car Club and benefits local foster children in Bullock County. Every year patrons line up at the Richard B. Stone Armory Complex for registration, $25 entry fee which includes a free meal, from there they cruise through Historic Union Springs and display their vehicles on Prairie Street in front of the Bullock County Courthouse.
Many vendors and local businesses participate in the silent auction, door prizes, and the voting for the awards. The event also included a live local band, 2 Generations, and DJ Pedro Gonzales kept everyone dancing between band segments. This year there were sixty-three vehicles registered for the event. This year's local winners include; Charles Rodgers, Sean Gallagher, Cardell O’Brian, Terrell Oliver, and Otis Streeter. “
This year’s event raised a total of $3,187 that will go towards local foster children in Union Springs and Bullock County. The Department of Human Resources obtained three potential foster and adoptive parents through recruitment efforts,” stated DHR Director Tracy Larkins.
