By John McGowan, Vice Chairman of the Bullock County Alabama Democratic Conference

I felt it was crucial for our community to have a presence at the "Hands Off!" protest on the Alabama State Capitol steps this past Saturday, April 5, in Montgomery. I wasn't alone; a good number of us from Bullock County made the trip to Montgomery, joining hundreds of fellow Alabamians and people from all over the country who share our concerns about government overreach and the importance of individual liberties.

Falling crosswalk sign foils daylight theft attempt

On the afternoon of Thursday, April 3, as local librarian Beverly “Honey” Grant (left) and local store owner Joyce Perrin (not pictured) were conversing, they heard a loud thud as a black pick-up truck drove by them. The noise was caused by the brand-new pedestrian crosswalk sign falling out of the back of the truck. They called Police Chief Johnny Potts (right) and he helped them put the sign back where it belonged, in the crosswalk between City Hall and the Bullock County Courthouse. Photo by Joyce Perrin.

Bullock County Humane Society pet of the week!

Fluffy is one of three kittens found hiding in the pine straw bales at the local feed store. Fluffy was quite small at the time and required bottle feeding until the Bullock County Humane Society staff were able to finally catch her momma. Because of this, Fluffy was sent to foster and has remained there since a young age. This makes Fluffy an “extremely socialized” and adoption-ready kitten. She is good with different cats and dogs, is house-trained, and is very loving!
