New teacher orientation welcomes fresh faces to the BC School District

Summer is ending and the new school year is days away from starting. The Bullock County School District recently held its annual New Teacher Orientation to welcome and prepare new educators for the upcoming academic year, which is an exciting start for educators as the school year approaches.

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the week!

Are you looking for a new companion, one that has a really good story to tell? Well then, we want you to meet El Chapo! This amazingly sweet boy was found with his head stuck in a cast iron grate! Our own Stevie Lamar was first on the scene to attempt to rescue the little guy. He was standing for several hours on hospitable back legs with his head firmly wedged between the imprisoning bars. As his little head simply wasn’t going to be pushed back the way it had originally come, additional reinforcements were called.

Alabama residents to get early access when booking stays at Alabama State Parks’ Campgrounds

Alabama residents will soon be able to make reservations for traditional campground accommodations (RV, modern, and primitive camping) at Alabama State Parks a month earlier than other travelers.

Beginning Aug. 1, 2024, Alabama residents will be able to make online reservations 13 months in advance, a month before out-of-state residents. Known as the “Alabama Residents Advanced Reservation Window,” Alabamians will have greater flexibility in pricing, location and date options.

Parham recognized for educational achievements by Judge Tatum

Judge James E. Tatum, Probate Judge for Bullock County, recognized Zakira Parham, a Bullock County High School honor graduate, Class of 2021, and presented her with a plaque for her educational achievements, on Thursday, July 19.

“Since she was hired as a Probate Office Clerk for Bullock County in October of 2022, she has shown dedication, commitment, and zealousness in her duties,” stated Tatum.

Students sacrifice summer for humane society

The Bullock County Humane Society has been very lucky this summer to have the help of two amazing young volunteers. Emmie Baker and Malia Lewis have spent the last two months helping to maintain the very full animal shelter in Bullock County. The shelter is currently at its maximum capacity with 82 dogs and 117 cats. Maximum capacity requires a hands-on approach to ensure cleanliness is maintained, animals are fed and receive any medical treatments, as well as being provided opportunities for exercise.

It may have been a very wet and rainy morning, but Jaderion Thomas and his mother, Chanear Stockdale, along with twenty members of their family and close friends, set out to hold the 2nd Annual Hope Trucking Back to School Supply Giveaway on Saturday, July 20 from 11:00 a.m. until supplies ran out.
