A tragic single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning, October 18, claimed the life of a 29-year-old Midway man. According to reports, Kendarius D. Youngblood was driving a 1986 Chevrolet Caprice when the vehicle veered off Alabama Highway 239, struck a tree, and caught fire.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:57 a.m., near the 23-mile marker, about six miles south of Union Springs in Bullock County. Youngblood was pronounced dead at the scene.

Union Springs 911 dispatch received a call at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Friday, October 17, reporting an overturned 18-wheeler on Highway 82 East, traveling from Midway toward Union Springs. The incident caused traffic to be detoured onto Highway 51 before the two-lane highway and onto County Road 47 in Midway, closing roughly 10 miles of Highway 82 East.

As temperatures begin to drop, Union Springs Fire Department Chief Rob Cameron is reminding Bullock County residents to take precautions to keep their homes and families safe during the colder months. Winter brings an increase in home fires and other seasonal hazards, but a few simple safety steps can help prevent tragedy.

He’s neutered, fully vaccinated, including a one-year rabies shot, and currently on flea and heartworm prevention. Chestnut is also dog-friendly and would love nothing more than to spend his days snuggled up in a loving home.

The Union Springs Telephone Company marked a major milestone on Tuesday, October 14, celebrating its 70th anniversary with a day full of giveaways, door prizes, and free food for its loyal customers.
The event, held at the company’s warehouse, drew several community members who came to celebrate the local business’s long-standing service to the area. Booths were set up showcasing raffle prizes, including a new router designed for the company’s high-speed fiber internet services.

The Union Springs Police Department has had a particularly active week as the community prepares for Bullock County High School’s Homecoming festivities.
Silver is a young, affectionate boy with a heart full of love and a playful spirit. This charming pup is dog-friendly and would thrive in a home with another canine companion to run and play with.

Barbara Cox graciously served as hostess, while Karen Hall provided an engaging and hands-on program. Vice President Dianne Culpepper conducted the meeting on behalf of President Cathy Ellis, with most members in attendance.
