Lena and June have been in the care of the Humane Society for a very long time. Lena is a plump, mixed breed, beautiful girl who just wants to be loved, petted and give you her affection. She doesn’t get the attention she deserves, because she lives away from the shelter in another holding kennel offsite. June is a gorgeous girl, a hound dog, who has been waiting a long time for a forever home! Both girls get along well with other dogs, have been treated for fleas and heartworms, spayed, and are up to date on their shots including a one year rabies vaccination.

“Crime is at an all-time high in Union Springs,” stated Mayor Roderick Clark at the September 3 City Council meeting.” If you see something, say something. These are drastic times, enough is enough! As we see around the country, communities are being plagued with violence in schools as well as local neighborhoods. I plead with our local community to stand up against crime and violence for our youth, senior citizens, and the working class.”

The meaning of the term “Plein Air” comes from the French term “in open air.” In reality it is the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. It is meant to experience the essence of choosing an outdoor subject and using the natural light, color and movement in your art during a prescribed art session. On Thursday, September 5, Bullock County Art Guild members experienced this first-hand. It was a day full of art, fellowship and experiencing a new method of painting for most who attended.

Perhaps one of the most frustrating things about living in a historic community is how a building goes from being built with architectural uniqueness and beauty, being enjoyed sometimes for generations - to the eyesore of the block or town. This can be a home or a downtown structure.
