18-Wheeler overturns on Highway 110 in Fitzpatrick

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 17, an 18-wheeler overturned on Highway 110 in Fitzpatrick, Alabama. According to reports, the truck was hauling a heavy load of wood chips when it rolled over.

The driver sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by LifeFlight to a nearby hospital for treatment. Cleanup operations lasted nearly five hours as crews worked to clear the roadway.

The Y. C. Nance Memorial Sports Foundation celebrated a milestone on Sunday, September 21, with its 20th Annual Y. C. Nance Bullock County Achievers Awards Banquet. The event, held at South Highlands Middle School, welcomed Representative Anthony Daniels as this year’s guest speaker.

Union Springs Police Department weekly report

The Union Springs Police Department continues its efforts to protect and serve the community, with officers handling multiple reports and cases over the past week.

Police Chief Johnny L. Potts, III filed two incident observation reports following a walk-in complaint. He also recorded one additional incident observation report later in the week.

Union Springs man indicted in fatal May 2024 crash

Staff Reports

The Union Springs community is still grieving the loss of two lives after a tragic crash last spring, and now charges have been filed against the man accused of causing it.

Jeremy Humphrey, 36, of Union Springs, was indicted on June 20 on two counts of reckless murder. Authorities say he was under the influence of alcohol on the night of the accident.

Lacey Holmes, along with members of the Person Chapel AME Church Health Ministry, partnered with representatives from Hey Fellas to share valuable information in recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The outreach event took place at the Dollar General Store in Midway, Alabama, where community members received educational resources and encouragement to take charge of their health.

Putnam named to All-Tournament Team

Laura Lee Putnam, pictured fourth above, represented Conecuh Springs Christian School on Saturday, September 13, with excellence at the Eagles Block Party Varsity Tournament, hosted by Victory Christian School in Millbrook. Her outstanding performance on the court earned her a spot on the prestigious All-Tournament Team, a recognition of her skill, dedication, and leadership.

Bullock County seniors reel in fun at Annual Fishing Derby

CAMO (Children and Mentors Outdoors) Kids hosted the annual Senior Fishing Derby on Saturday, September 13, at the Wehle Land Conservation Center in Midway, Alabama. The sunny day drew 71 Bullock County senior citizens, who enjoyed hours of fishing, laughter, and fellowship.
