Church-led outreach feeds community this Christmas

One Love Ministries, alongside several Bullock County churches, recently came together to host the Annual Turkey Dinner Giveaway, continuing a tradition rooted in compassion, service, and community care. The outreach is led by Pastor Michael King and his wife, Thaiwana, who have faithfully carried out this act of love for the past six years.

Bullock County authorities investigate homicide in Midway’s Oak Grove community

The Bullock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a homicide after the body of a deceased male was discovered Saturday morning in the Oak Grove community of Midway.

Deputies were called to a residence along Highway 51 at approximately 11:00 a.m. on December 20, 2025. The victim has been identified as James Tolbert, 69, of Bullock County, according to Deputy Chief Roderick Rover.

Competing against some of the best shooting dogs and handlers from across the country, Lee guided his dogs to the championship title and derby victory, cementing a remarkable showing on one of the sport’s most respected circuits.

Queen 2 came to the shelter on February 15, 2023, and has been patiently waiting for her chance at a forever home. She is a young, sweet girl who may be a bit shy at first, but she quickly warms up once she feels comfortable. With each day, Queen 2 continues to open up more to people and show her loving personality.

SHMS Boys Basketball - Back-to-back undefeated seasons

Union Springs — The South Highlands Middle School Boys Basketball team has given the community plenty to celebrate this year, finishing the season undefeated and extending an impressive 22-game winning streak spanning three seasons.

Led by Head Coach Shane Smith, the Hornets displayed consistency, discipline, and teamwork throughout the season. Each contest highlighted the team’s strong defensive play, unselfish offense, and ability to remain composed in high-pressure moments.

USPD handles chase, arrests, and robbery

The Union Springs Police Department remained active over the past week, responding to incidents, serving warrants, and continuing ongoing investigations throughout the community.

According to department reports, Sgt. Cummings had no incidents to report during the period. Cpl. Lewis completed two warrant services and one I/O report, which was documented in the department’s third Top category.
