Police investigating weekend gunfire on Thomas Street

Several Union Springs residents reported hearing gunshots over the weekend, and the Union Springs Police Department has confirmed that shots were fired Sunday evening on Thomas Street. According to authorities, no injuries were reported in the incident.

On Saturday, February 28, community members gathered at the Doc McGowan Gymnasium at Bullock County High School for the “9A Showtime at the Apollo” event presented by Men Who Care. The program provided a platform for local talent while also delivering a strong message about unity, responsibility, and community involvement.

Sheriff’s Office steps up patrols amid gunfire concerns in Oak Grove

The Bullock County Sheriff’s Department is stepping up its presence in parts of the county in response to recent public safety concerns, particularly in the Oak Grove area of Midway.

Deputies have committed to maintaining a constant presence in the community as reports of frequent gunfire in Oak Grove have raised alarm. The department will continue regular patrols and closely monitor activity to deter crime and promote a safer environment for families and local businesses.

Bullock County Career Technical Center launches First DECA Chapter

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., the Bullock County Career Technical Center hosted its Founding DECA Induction Ceremony at 304 East Blackmon Street in Union Springs. The event marked a historic milestone as the school officially launched its first DECA chapter.

Tree-mendous day in Bullock County: Hundreds of trees find new homes

In celebration of Arbor Day 2026, observed nationally on Friday, April 28, Alabama Forestry Ranger Mark Richardson teamed up with members of the Bullock County Soil and Water Conservation District, including Mike Rotton and Joyce and Stephan Turnipseed, to give away more than 1,100 trees to residents. The event was held on Wednesday, February 25, at the vacant lot adjacent to the Union Springs Library.
