The Union Springs Police Department continues to work to keep the community safe. The department recently released its activity report for the past week, along with information regarding a burglary at a local business.

A roof fire at Wayne-Sanderson Farms was quickly contained Friday afternoon, August 14, thanks to the prompt actions of contractors and plant personnel.
The Union Springs Fire Department received a 911 call at approximately 1:43 p.m. reporting a fire on the roof of the Wayne-Sanderson Farms facility. Contractors with Roof Technology Partners, along with Wayne-Sanderson Farms personnel, were able to contain the fire within minutes of it occurring.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, August 15, a structure fire on the corner of Hardaway and Cooper Streets brought emergency responders to the scene.
A 911 call was received at approximately 5:38 a.m. reporting the fire. The Union Springs Fire Department, Fitzpatrick Volunteer Fire Department, and Union Springs Police Department responded to the emergency.

The 25th academic year at Conecuh Springs Christian School (CSCS) officially commenced on Wednesday, August 12, as the school bells rang to welcome students back to campus.

Ka’Shaad Hurt’s annual back-to-school giveaway was once again a success, bringing families together for a day of support, fellowship and fun.
The event was held Saturday, August 15, at the home of Sam and B.J. Benton. Chairman John McGowan, spokesperson for the event, opened the program with a greeting. Ms. Crystal Johnson then led attendees in song, followed by an opening prayer from Deacon Al Scott.
Heather Wright of Dallas County, Hunter Smith of Bullock County, Scott Poague of Elmore County and Jon Hegeman of Calhoun County were elected to the Alabama Farmers Federation State Greenhouse, Nursery & Sod Committee Aug. 6. Elections were held during the Federation’s 2026 Farm & Land Conference in Mobile. State commodity committee members help direct policy for the state’s largest farm organization, allocate research dollars and coordinate educational sessions for fellow farmers.

The Union Springs City Council met Monday, August 17, with all council members present, including Mayor Ron Smith, Councilwoman SaQuania Cooper, Councilman Lynn Jinks, Councilwoman Erica Shepherd, Councilman Stan “Chilly” Cooks and Councilwoman Tiffany King. City Clerk/Treasurer Terronda Hooks was also present.

Misty, a sweet six-year-old dog with an affectionate personality, is hoping to find a loving family to call her own through the Bullock County Humane Society.
Misty first came to the shelter as a stray on March 23, 2023. Sadly, she tested positive for heartworms. With assistance from the Stand Up For Pits Foundation, Inc., which provided an Angel Grant to help 11 dogs receive heartworm treatment, Misty was able to receive the care she needed and successfully beat the disease.
