Devin Lane and Za’Carria Day Crowned Mr. and Miss BCHS

Bullock County High School held its 2026-2027 Homecoming Coronation on Sunday, October 4, at the David Lowe Gymnasium, where Devin Lane and Za’Carria Day were crowned Mr. and Miss Bullock County High School.

Day, daughter of Demarcus and Shirlinda Day, is a 4.0 GPA student and an active member of SGA, FBLA, FTA, DECA, and the varsity cheerleading team. Following graduation, she plans to serve in the United States Air Force before pursuing a business degree at The University of Alabama.

From BCHS to the Capitol: SGA students embrace leadership

The Bullock County High School Student Government Association held its 2026-2027 induction ceremony Monday, September 28, in the school’s old gymnasium. The program began at 9 a.m. and was followed by a field trip to the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery.

Fall pride shines in October’s Yard of the Month honors

The Union Springs Community Outreach has announced its October Yard of the Month recipients, recognizing two residents whose beautifully decorated yards are helping bring seasonal spirit and community pride to Union Springs.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wynn were selected once again for the honor. Councilman Stan “Chilly” Cooks said the couple’s yard continues to stand out and deserves another month of recognition. “Their yard is too beautiful not to give the honor to them once again,” Cooks said.

Faith and Homecoming: Prayer breakfast covers parade plans

The October Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast was held on Monday, October 5, at First Baptist Church of Union Springs. The breakfast began at 7:00 a.m. and concluded at 7:50 a.m., with 21 people in attendance. The morning’s Bible verse was 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV): “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Union Springs woman killed in Pike County head-on collision

A Union Springs woman was killed Friday, October 2, following a two-vehicle crash in Pike County. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash occurred at approximately 12:48 p.m. on U.S. 29 near the 111-mile marker, about three miles north of Troy.

Collision slows traffic on Wednesday

A vehicle collision in front of Liberty Food Mart slowed traffic Wednesday evening, Sept. 30, at approximately 4:45 p.m. Union Springs Police Department officers Sgt. Cummings, Officer Penn, and Capt. Gary Lewis responded to the scene, along with Haynes Ambulance. Emergency personnel worked at the scene while officers assisted with traffic control. Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

This week the Bullock County Humane Society features Mickie

Mickie is a sweet 1-year-old, 30- to 35-pound pit bull mix who loves people and other dogs. He is neutered, vaccinated and on flea and heartworm prevention.
