At the Bullock County Humane Society, a friendly face named Tuffy is still waiting for someone to come and meet him.
Tuffy arrived at the shelter on Sept. 1, 2025, after being found as a stray. The lovable dog, estimated to be around five years old, has quickly become a favorite among shelter volunteers. Described as a “sweet little nugget,” Tuffy’s affectionate personality and playful spirit have made many wonder why he has not yet found his forever home.
The medium-energy pup enjoys simple pleasures such as belly rubs, tasty treats, and spending time with people. Staff members say he already knows the command “sit” and appears to be friendly with other dogs as well. Tuffy is heartworm negative, has received his one-year rabies vaccination, and is currently on flea and heartworm prevention. He is also scheduled to be neutered soon.
Because the shelter serves a rural area with limited walk-through traffic from potential adopters, the Bullock County Humane Society offers transport for approved adopters and rescue groups. Dogs can be transported by plane or vehicle to out-of-state homes, with the exception of Hawaii and Alaska.
Anyone interested in meeting Tuffy can contact the shelter by phone or text at 334-672-5463 or send an email to [email protected] to arrange an appointment.
The Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and relies heavily on community support. Donations are always welcome, and the shelter is currently in need of adult dog food, puppy food (both dry and wet), cat food, and cleaning supplies. Contributions can be mailed to the shelter at 21426 Highway 82 East in Union Springs.
For now, Tuffy continues to wait patiently, hoping the next visitor might be the one who gives him the loving home he deserves.
