The Bullock County Humane Society is hoping to find a loving forever home for Dutchess, a sweet, affectionate dog who has been waiting far too long for her chance at a family.
Dutchess arrived at the shelter on July 1, 2023, just before the Fourth of July, and has remained in the shelter’s care ever since. Shelter volunteers describe the 4-year-old, 55-pound white dog as a lovable “baby hippo” with a gentle personality and a heart full of love. Dutchess gets along well with other dogs, and the Bullock County Humane Society welcomes meet-and-greets for families with other pets to help ensure a good fit.
She is current on all vaccinations, including her rabies vaccine, and is receiving flea and heartworm prevention. The shelter recently announced more good news—Dutchess was re-tested for heartworms and received a negative result, making her ready to begin the next chapter of her life with a new family.
Because the shelter is located in a rural area with little foot traffic, adoptions, foster placements, and rescue opportunities can be limited. To help more animals find homes, transportation is available for approved adopters and rescue organizations throughout much of the United States by vehicle or plane, with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii.
