On March 8th, 2023 at approximately 2 a.m., two homes located on Tye Avenue in Union Springs were subjected to gunfire, resulting in multiple bullet holes in the homes. According to Joe Davis, one of the residents, several bullets penetrated the walls and entered various rooms in the homes. Joe Davis and his son were awakened by the sound of gunshots. A bullet hit the headboard of a bed, narrowly missing Davis and his son, who were sleeping at the time. The young boy was understandably frightened and has since been sleeping on the floor beside his father.

Reports indicate that around 23 yellow markers were found on the ground, believed to be the locations where shell casings landed. Additionally, a car window was shot, causing it to shatter in the yard of one of the homes. On March 9th, 2023, shootings were also reported on Abercrombie Street, Peachburg Road and near a school in Union Springs. It is unclear whether these incidents are related.

As a precaution, schools were placed on lockdown on March 9th. According to Union Springs Police Chief Ronnie Felder, no suspects are currently in custody, and the police are actively searching for the individuals responsible for the shooting. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Chief Felder urges the community to communicate with law enforcement and not to take matters into their own hands. He reassures the public that the police are willing and able to help.  Anyone with information, please contact Union Springs Police at 334-738-3131.
