Ka’Shaad Hurt’s annual back-to-school giveaway was once again a success, bringing families together for a day of support, fellowship and fun.
The event was held Saturday, August 15, at the home of Sam and B.J. Benton. Chairman John McGowan, spokesperson for the event, opened the program with a greeting. Ms. Crystal Johnson then led attendees in song, followed by an opening prayer from Deacon Al Scott.
A total of 20 families received $100 in cash, bringing the total amount distributed to $2,000. The original goal was to give away $1,500. In addition to the cash donations, children received tote bags filled with personal hygiene items.
Refreshments were also served, including hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, hot fish, sodas, and water.
“I want to thank my family, Muh Dear’s BBQ, my special friend Mrs. Faye Wynn, and all the parents who took the time to bring their children out for this event that is dear to my heart,” B.J. Benton said. “I hope to see you all again next year.”
The annual event continues to provide much-needed assistance to local families as students prepare for the new school year.
