The family updated the interment information.

Linda Brookins Hubbard, 79, beloved wife of Billy Hubbard, passed away on July 28, 2023, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.

Linda was born on April 8, 1944, in Columbus, GA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Lee Brookins, Sr., and Gaynell Renfroe Brookins; sisters, Betty Jean Brookins and Mary Lou Arnold; and brothers, Willie Lee Brookins and Ben Brookins.

She grew up in Columbus and moved with her family to Union Springs, AL, where she graduated from high school. She married Billy Hubbard on July 28, 1962. A few years later the couple relocated to Sandersville, GA, before settling in Ivey, GA. Working as an LPN, she enrolled in Georgia College’s first Registered Nursing class in 1969.

Linda began her 34-year career in public health at the Baldwin County Health Department. After obtaining her BS in Nursing she served as the Coordinator of Nursing Service in the North Central Health District. In 1981 she became the District Public Health Nursing and Clinical Director in Macon, GA. She received her Master’s Degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia in 1987.

She served her community as a devoted member of the Gordon Woman’s Club and through her church. She acted as Worthy Matron in a Masonic chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her cheerful spirit fit perfectly with the Optimist Club she joined after moving to White County in North Georgia.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years William E. “Billy” Hubbard of White County; sisters, Janice Allen of Troy, AL, Patricia Garrett of Ivey, and Barbara Brookins of Columbus; son, William E. “Bill” (Michelle) Hubbard II of Dublin, GA; granddaughter, Cheyenne Rae Hubbard of Macon; step-grandson, James Ciro Brinsko of Irvine, CA, and many nieces and nephews.

Linda touched numerous lives with her kindness and caring nature. In remembrance of her, the family is planning a celebration of life gathering on Saturday, September 16th at 11:00 a.m. at the Gordon Woman’s Club, 110 College Street, Gordon, GA.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hubbard Cemetery, County Road 14, Union Springs, AL.

The family respectfully requests memorials to be made to the Gordon Woman’s Club, PO Box 956, Gordon, GA 31031, or other charitable organization.
