What is something that is very commonly asked of a High School Senior? My answer: Are you going to college? It is very stereotypical to ask a graduating high school student if they're planning to go to college. College does not have to be the next big step for everyone and it is not the only next big step these students can take. So, I decided to ask a few seniors why they would want to go to college and what it really meant to them? Also, if they plan to play a sport, why are they doing it and what does it also mean to them? The following were some of their responses.
Shamyia Simmons stated, “I want to go to college to start fresh, start my life, explore, learn and be top of my class. Also, to be free, to meet new people, and to try something new. To me this means everything. My life now feels so depressing and slow. I would like to change that. I believe college gives you an opportunity to do all those things. I feel that playing a sport would give me something to do and keep my life moving. I enjoy playing sports and I love the workouts that come with it.”
Donquaviion Bourne stated, “I want to go to college to become successful. I know a lot of people can say that you don’t have to go to college to be successful but I want to take it to the next level. College to me means that you are getting a chance at life and learning from people all over the world. I would like to play baseball. It might be boring to some people, but I actually enjoy it. It helps me with my anxiety and stress and you also have to be very careful. I might not play baseball forever but I will always love the sport I played.”
