ALBBAA announces winner of 2025 Sporting Dog Photo Contest

MONTGOMERY – When Baldwin County resident Ashley Ammons learned about the Alabama Black Belt Adventures’ Best Sporting Dog Contest, she immediately knew the photo she wanted to submit.

The photo – showing Fancy, Ammons’ Boykin spaniel, carrying a pheasant during a pheasant shoot sponsored by the Central Alabama Shooting Dog Association (CASDA) in the heart of Alabama’s Black Belt – impressed online voters in the contest, garnering nearly 750 votes to win.

National Open Shooting Dog Championship, Part 3: The Running

Starting the championship on Monday morning, in the first brace was Hale’s Smooth Touch (Shawn Kinkelaar) and Miller’s Extreme Heat (Mike Tracy). They broke away at 8:01 a.m. It was a chilly 39 degrees, but the sun was shining brightly. Touch was absent just after crossing the road, and Kinkelaar requested the tracker at 31. At the hour mark just under the Eagles' Nest, scout George Tracy called point for Heat. Mike was unable to produce game for his classy female. She finished the 90 minutes behind Big Lake.

In our last article, we began discussing the 2012 Comprehensive Plan (online at unionsprings.net), its introduction and mention of resources. A pictured list of our historical assets was included. But, before we move on to the next section of the plan, which is Demographics and Resources, a few issues should be added to this discussion that are not documented in the plan.

Midway seniors go green for a festive feast

On March 17, the Midway Nutrition Site celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in style by donning green. “The luck of the Irish was with us,” said Jennie Sparks, manager, who treated everyone to donuts topped with festive green decorations. Attendees enjoyed a traditional Irish meal of delicious shepherd’s pie. A good time was had by all. Photos by Jennie Sparks, Midway Nutrition Site Manager.

Buzzing problem: St. Paul Methodist Church tackles bee removal from tower

On Monday, March 17, Pastor James Ingram of St. Paul Methodist Church had a Master Beekeeper come to the church to assess and ultimately remove a massive bee or hornet hive that has been a nuisance to those who attend the church. The hive was located in the tower of the church.

South Highlands Middle School saw an unprecedented turnout at its Community Data Night, where parents and students gathered to explore the connections between ACAP scores, the State Report Card, and local workforce opportunities. Principal Peterson, alongside community leaders like Attorney Lynn Jinks, emphasized the vital role of education in shaping Bullock County’s future.
