Fire at Wayne Sanderson Farms sparked by transformer

An unforeseen electrical fire occurred at Wayne Sanderson Farms last week on Tuesday, February 25. At approximately 4:35 p.m., Union Springs emergency dispatch requested the assistance of the Union Springs Fire Department to respond to a fire in the Wayne Farms electrical/compressor room.

What’s the buzz at the Library?

February has been a very busy month for the Union Springs Carnegie Public Library. The month of February was observed as Black History Month, with many books on display that have been implemented in the Black history movement and also left their mark on the nation as well as the Bullock County area.

USES celebrates Read Across America Week

Read Across America Week  was kicked off at Union Springs Elementary School and was a success. Students and teachers wore their favorite Dr. Seuss t-shirt and Dr. Seuss hat. Bullock County local, Nazareth Reynolds Thornton designed the shirts for the school and community. Photo found on Facebook.

Senior citizens celebrated “Black History Month”

A program was held on Friday, February 28, at the Union Springs Senior Citizens Nutrition Center to honor the accomplishments of Black Americans in celebration of Black History Month.

Tommie O’Neal was the Master of Ceremonies and introduced the program participants. The program began with a devotion led by Red Perry, Deacon Jim Ellis, and Pastor Burck that included speaking, singing and praying.

Bullock County Humane Society pet of the week!

Milbry is ready to love you unconditionally! This very sweet, fun, smiley boy loves being out in the play yard with his kennel mate, Lily.  Milbry is young, neutered, and up to date on all shots, including his rabies vaccination. He is currently on flea and heartworm prevention. He is great with other dogs and loves to be around people.

Conecuh Springs Christian School (CSCS) elementary students enjoyed a winter dance in the school's gymnasium with a Mardi Gras theme on Friday, February 28. The setup and decorations were provided by the senior high students at CSCS.

Holmes arrested: Arson charges pending as local business owners suffer major losses

A tip provided to Central Alabama Crime Stoppers on Thursday, February 20 around 9:00 a.m. led Union Springs Police and the Bullock County Sheriff’s Department to arrest arson suspect Tommie Cortez Holmes. He was wanted on outstanding warrants from Pike and Dale Counties.
