Union Springs Police Department continues community patrols, reports weekly activity

The Union Springs Police Department continues its efforts to protect and serve the community through daily patrols, investigations, and responding to incidents throughout the city. According to the department’s latest weekly activity report, several officers handled a variety of calls, while others reported no incidents during their assigned shifts.

Sgt. Cummings and Officer Penn had no incidents to report during the week. Chief Johnny L. Potts III noted that officers who have no reports during a shift are still actively working throughout the community by patrolling neighborhoods, conducting checks, and helping maintain public safety.

Cpl. Lewis responded to one accident and completed two reports during the reporting period. Officer Harris made one arrest, issued two citations, and gave four warnings. Harris also completed two incident/offense reports. The arrest involved Trinitee Dill, who was taken into custody on an active warrant. Additional charges listed include Criminal Use of a Defense Chemical Spray and Harassment. Officer Felder completed three reports and responded to one accident, while Captain Gary Lewis handled one accident and two incident/offense reports.

The department also confirmed that Jeremiah Hoyle was brought in for questioning. Officials stated that the department is not able to release additional details regarding that matter at this time.

Chief Potts also addressed concerns regarding reports of random shooting incidents in the community. He encouraged residents with information about possible crimes to report those concerns directly to law enforcement. "In regard to reports of random shooting incidents, if some of the people reporting it to others would report it to the police department, we can stop some shootings, put some people in jail, and convict them to the fullest extent of the law," Potts said.
