For the first time in four years, the city hosted the 4th of July Fun Day, a free event, for the community at Ed Farrior Park. The last time the City of Union Springs hosted a fireworks show was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
City Councilman Stan “Chilly” Cooks took on the responsibility of coordinating all the moving parts for the program. The evening consisted of music, games, appetizing food, friendship, a fantastic fireworks display, and most importantly, the celebration of our nation’s freedom. The event began at 6 p.m. with the fireworks display at 8 p.m.
“We had a wonderful time at the City of Union Springs’ fireworks show! Many thanks to the City of Union Springs, Mayor Roderick Clark, Recreation Director John King, the hard-working ladies of Chilly’s Ice Cool Band for excellent food service, the great crowd, and a special thanks goes out to our guest speaker Ms. LaShondra “Meka” Johnson for a very inspirational speech! It was a very good day in 9A, with more to come,” commented Cooks.
