The Union Springs Police Department responded to a number of incidents over the past two weeks, including incident/offense (I/O) reports, reports of shots fired, arrests, citations, and a shooting investigation within the city limits.
According to the department’s weekly reports, Chief Johnny L. Potts III handled two I/O reports during the first reporting period. Sgt. Cummings responded to one I/O report that week and later handled two additional I/O reports during the week of May 17–24.
Officer Felder reported three I/O incidents during the earlier week and also responded to a shooting near the Arco gas station on Saturday night, where authorities said a Black male was shot. During the following week, Officer Felder handled two additional reports.
Cpl. Lewis reported two I/O incidents during the first week and later responded to one private property report along with two more I/O reports during the week of May 17–24.
Officer Penn handled one I/O report during the earlier week and later responded to a criminal mischief I/O report the following week. Officer Adamson responded to one I/O report during the first reporting period and later handled two I/O reports, made one arrest, issued five citations, and gave two written warnings during the week of May 17–24. Authorities identified the arrest as Jimmy Tolliver, who was charged with Domestic Violence, Third Degree.
Officer Harris responded to one private property report and one shots-fired report at the intersection of Baskin and Tye Street during the earlier week. He had nothing further to report during the week of May 17–24.
Following the recent incidents involving gunfire, Chief Potts is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible for discharging firearms within the city.
“The Union Springs Police Department needs help from the citizens of Union Springs to help bring people to justice who fire weapons in our city,” said Chief Potts. “We have been lucky that no innocent bystander has been struck.”
