Bullock County churches donate 1,037 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child

The First Baptist Church of Union Springs is celebrating another record-breaking year of generosity as Bullock County residents came together to support Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse that sends shoebox gifts to children in need across the globe.

Hornets’ historic season ends in 3rd round

On a windy Friday, November 21st, the Hornets took a trip down to Fairhope for the third round of the 4A playoffs. Their next opponent was the St. Michael Catholic High School Cardinals. The Cardinals came into this match-up with an undefeated record (12-0). Hornets quarterback Tyekelis Wallace came in as the AHSAA Region Athlete of the Week. He received that honor after the 21-0 win over Mobile Christian, finishing 190 yards from 19 carries and 1 touchdown.

Early-morning crash claims life of Union Springs resident

Staff Reports

A tragic accident early Sunday morning, November 23, resulted in the death of a 21-year-old man from Union Springs. Around 5 a.m., Isaac Vail-Carreto lost his life after the 2011 Honda Accord he was driving veered off U.S. Highway 82 and collided with a tree.

The crash happened near mile marker 189, roughly 13 miles west of Union Springs in Bullock County. Vail-Carreto died at the scene from his injuries.

Christian Leaders of USA, Inc. (CLOUSA) has announced its substantial support for humanitarian recovery efforts in Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa's severe impact. Demonstrating a dedicated commitment to global aid, CLOUSA has channelled a monetary contribution to the Sandals Foundation, the non-profit arm of Sandals Resorts International, which is actively engaged in leading relief and rebuilding missions across the affected island nation.

Jasper is the cutest little nugget, a pocket pittie with a big heart who dreams of being someone’s one and only. This sweet one-year-old boy has been at the shelter since June 18, and he’s more than ready for a fresh start.

South Highland downs Goshen

On Thursday, November 20, South Highland Middle School basketball Boys and Girls teams faced the Goshen Middle School Eagles. The girls' team was in a low-scoring game. The Lady Hornets found a way to extend their lead with defense and fast-break points. They earned a stat in the win column with a  25-11 victory.

The Model Garden Club created the wreath for Veterans Day in honor of those men and women who have fought bravely and selflessly for our freedom. Hornets win first play-off game!

November 14 was another historic night to remember for Bullock County High School Football. After achieving the program's first playoff win over Oak Grove (21-7), the Hornets hosted their first home playoff game against the Mobile Christian Leopards. The crowd flooded Thornton-Foster Stadium.

CAMO Kids Thanksgiving Food Drive feeds 200 Bullock County families

Children and Mentors Outdoors (CAMO) hosted a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the community on Saturday, November 15, made possible by the Black Belt Community Foundation. Additional sponsors included State Representative Anthony Daniels, Darren Beachem, Board President of the Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network (ASAN), and the Union Springs Exchange Club.
