The congregation of St. Paul United Methodist Church continues its efforts to preserve and maintain the church’s historic structure. Originally established in 1869 and rebuilt in 1903, the church remains an important part of the community’s history.

Union Springs Police Department weekly report

The Union Springs Police Department continues its efforts to maintain safety and order throughout the city. Officials recently released their weekly activity report, highlighting the work of several officers.

Police Chief Potts reported one incident/offense (I/O) report during the week.

Sergeant Cummings and Lieutenant Lewis reported no incidents for the reporting period.

From the very beginning, I found myself recognizing the rhythms of small-town life and the way the authors captured the spirit of a place like Union Springs.

City of Union Springs announces updated Solid Waste pickup guidelines

The City of Union Springs remains fully committed to providing a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all residents. To improve the efficiency of our solid waste services, we are asking all residents who are customers of the Union Springs Solid Waste Program to please follow the updated pickup schedule listed below.

Residents are kindly asked to place all items at the curb the day before the scheduled pickup to help ensure timely collection.

Wallace Harris, a native of Union Springs, recently made a generous donation to the Union Springs Nutrition Site while also helping raise awareness about the importance of cognitive health among older adults. Harris was introduced by Union Springs Mayor Ronald Smith and spoke to attendees about the importance of maintaining brain health.

Seniors enjoy Easter Egg Hunt at Midway Nutrition Site

The Midway Nutrition Site hosted a festive Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, March 27, at 11 a.m. for the senior citizens who regularly attend the site. The event brought laughter, friendly competition, and a touch of holiday spirit as participants searched for colorful eggs hidden throughout the area.

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

The Bullock County Humane Society is hoping to find a loving home for Indigo, a sweet and energetic dog currently staying at the shelter.

Indigo arrived at the shelter on March 6, 2025. Staff members describe her as a very friendly dog who gets along well with other dogs. She is currently kenneled with another dog named Leonard and enjoys having canine companionship.

Fitzpatrick Methodist Church welcomed a special guest speaker on Sunday, March 29, as Rev. Dr. John Ed Mathison, Pastor Emeritus of Frazer Church, joined the congregation for its 5th Sunday and Palm Sunday worship service. The service will begin at 11 a.m., and the community is invited to attend.
