Members of the 9A Vette Riderz of Bullock County recently traveled to Birmingham to take part in The Fast and The Furious Annual Corvette Convention. The event, held Saturday, August 22, brought together Corvette enthusiasts and clubs from across the area. The 9A Vette Riderz joined the Left Lane Vette Ryderz, showcasing an impressive collection of Corvettes that caught the attention of those in attendance.

Union Springs Elementary School’s Character & Career Club recently held its monthly meeting, focusing on the importance of developing a strong work ethic.
Club sponsors Lynneicia McMillian and Jayla Wilson led the meeting and encouraged students to consider how their attitudes, perseverance and commitment to doing their best can help shape their future.

New band director Jakori Hollinger has brought music to the forefront of Hornet Nation as BCHS welcomes the return of its marching band. This marks the first time in four years that the school has had a marching band, since Stan Cooks previously directed the program.
This year’s band includes approximately 30 students, along with a danceline. The students spent a large portion of their summer preparing for the season, learning marching techniques and working on their music.

A 46-year-old Lauderhill, Florida, woman was killed, and another passenger was injured in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning, August 29, in Barbour County.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash occurred at approximately 4:23 a.m. on U.S. 82 near the 221-mile marker, about seven miles east of Midway.

Students at Conecuh Springs Christian School received a special hands-on science lesson recently, thanks to a sponsored visit from the Auburn University Raptor Center. The educational event was proudly sponsored by the Bullock County Conservation District.

The Women on Mission (WOM) of Union Springs held its monthly meeting Monday, August 17, at the Josephine Event Center in Union Springs, with 10 regular members and one guest in attendance.
The August meeting also served as the organization’s annual meeting to elect officers for 2027. Those elected were Barbara Cope, president; Mona Crawford, vice president and treasurer; Faye Gaston, secretary and publicity; Gail Barr, Mission Action Project chairman; and Vicky Hall, Clothing Room chairman.
While the Bullock County Humane Society has many dogs waiting for loving homes, the shelter also has plenty of cats and kittens available for adoption and rescue. All felines receive veterinary care when they arrive at the shelter. They are given their necessary vaccinations, including a rabies vaccination, flea and tick medications, and all cats are spayed or neutered before adoption.

The Alabama Power Foundation is proud to announce Laura Lee Putnam, a graduate of Conecuh Springs Christian School, as a scholarship recipient in the inaugural year of its Community Scholars Program. Putnam will receive a one-time $2,500 scholarship for use at her community college, college, or university of choice this fall.
This fall, Putnam will attend Troy University and plans to pursue a degree in elementary education.

South Highlands Middle School is inviting parents, families, and community supporters to take an active role in the school's continued growth during its upcoming PTO/Title I Meeting on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at South Highlands Middle School.
