The City of Union Springs held a remembrance ceremony Friday, Sept. 11, honoring the lives lost during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and remembering the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while rushing to help those trapped in the rubble of the World Trade Center.

Jayden Bishop Ivey, 19, a resident of Bullock County, was identified as the victim who lost his life in a double shooting Sunday night in Tuskegee. A juvenile suspect has been taken into custody and is facing charges of murder and attempted murder, according to Tuskegee Police Chief Gary Hicks.

For Jada, a loving family and a place to call home are long overdue. Jada arrived at the Bullock County Humane Society on June 23, 2023. Since sharing her third anniversary at the shelter, volunteers are hoping someone will see the wonderful family dog she can be and give her the chance she deserves.

Did you know our county spends approximately $3.5 million in tax revenue to manage, staff, equip, and maintain our roads and bridges every year?
The County Rebuild Alabama Fund (CRAF) is a gas and fuel tax that is exclusively for road and bridge projects. The county receives this funding monthly, and totals approximately $820 thousand per year.

The Union Springs City Council met Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. at City Hall, with Captain Gary Lewis opening the meeting with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Those in attendance included Mayor Ron Smith, Councilmembers SaQuania Cooper, Lynn Jinks, Erica Shepherd, Stan “Chilly” Cooks, and Tiffany King, along with City Clerk/Treasurer Terronda Hooks.

Students at Conecuh Springs Christian School recently honored the anniversary of September 11, 2001, through a series of meaningful classroom and community activities.
In the classroom, students created essays and crafts highlighting our nation’s true heroes and the vital ways they support our citizens. This artwork was proudly displayed along the school hallways, with several pieces remaining up as a lasting tribute to those who stepped up to help on that tragic day.

The Children and Mentors Outdoors (CAMO) hosted its 3rd Annual Senior Fishing Derby Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Wehle Land Conservation Center in Midway. Registration began at 7 a.m., with the event continuing until noon.
What began as a wet and dreary morning soon gave way to breezy, sunny skies as local seniors ranging in age from 60 to 90 gathered for a morning of fishing, fellowship, and fun.

The monthly Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast brought members of the community together Tuesday morning, September 8, for a time of fellowship, breakfast, and prayer at the Union Springs Community Center on March Street.
Hosted by the City of Union Springs, the breakfast was held from 7 to 8 a.m. Mayor Ron Smith welcomed those in attendance and thanked everyone for joining together for the monthly gathering.
