A Bullock County man drove his Dodge Ram pickup truck into the side of an apartment complex at the corner of Peachburg Road and Peachburg Circle in Union Springs on Tuesday afternoon, September 22, at approximately 1:30 p.m. According to authorities, the driver experienced a medical issue that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. The truck crashed through a fence before striking the apartment building.

Residents in the downtown Union Springs area near Piggly Wiggly and McDonald’s were alerted to what sounded like automatic gunfire Saturday, September 26, at approximately 9 p.m. One resident recalled the gunfire sounding so close that they dropped to the floor for safety.

Fourteen women from communities across Bullock County gathered Monday, September 21, to begin preparing Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes for children around the world. The group met from 1 to 2 p.m. and assembled 100 boxes during the first packing session. Amy Hall is leading the local effort and hopes the group will be able to prepare as many as 300 shoeboxes by November.

Beginning October 1, Alabama dog owners will face new statewide requirements designed to establish minimum standards for the care and outdoor confinement of dogs.

The Bullock County High School Class of 1971 will celebrate its 55th Class Reunion on October 7 at the Union Springs Country Club and Golf Course. A golf tournament will also be held that day.
This reunion is about more than memories—it is a fundraiser to provide scholarships for this year’s Bullock County High School seniors. The effort is being spearheaded by Mr. Wiley Edley.

Conecuh Springs Christian School is preparing for a landmark Homecoming weekend as the school celebrates its 25th year of education and athletics. The community is invited to dress in red or navy and pack the stands for two action-packed nights of Eagle sports.

On the last Friday of September, the Hornets hosted the Trojans of Charles Henderson High School. This was their third consecutive home game. Charles Henderson was coming off a two-game winning streak, scoring over 40 points in both games – 42-0 versus Beauregard and 46-21 vs. Elmore County.
After spending more than two years behind a wire kennel door, Tara continues to greet each day with a smile. Despite her long stay at the Bullock County Humane Society, this sweet and resilient girl remains affectionate and hopeful that her forever family will come along.

Bullock County native Brittany L. Goshay, formerly Brittany Glaze, is preparing to release her debut novel, No Mercy, on October 14. The fictional coming-of-age story was inspired by Goshay’s sister, Ashley Glaze, who has cerebral palsy.

The Bullock County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. on October 11 at the Business Center Building, 104 Conecuh Avenue East. The program will feature a discussion of Helen Claire, Lucy Feagin, and Ben Edwards, all of whom were involved in the performing arts, along with a display of photographs and other information. Each left Union Springs and achieved great success. The Historical Society encourages community members to attend.
