Caring Full Gospel Church launches building fund for new facility

Caring Full Gospel Church in Union Springs, under the leadership of Pastor Mack Birks, has launched a Building Fund to construct a new facility that will accommodate its growing congregation and expanding outreach ministries.

Bullock County Humane Society pet of the week!

Sweetie has been patiently waiting for her forever family at the Bullock County Humane Society for over two years.

This gentle, affectionate dog dreams of having a soft bed to sleep on and someone to snuggle with. She arrived at the shelter on August 1, 2023, after being found as a stray left on the side of the road in a Bullock County community.

Union Springs City Council addresses employment approvals, sidewalk project, and service recognition

The Union Springs City Council met on Monday, August 4, in the Bullock County Courthouse basement. The meeting opened with a prayer led by Don Larkins, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance recited by all in attendance.

All council members were present except Latesha Howard. The agenda was approved, and with no old business to discuss, the council moved into new business items.

Education retirees stay connected and active over summer

The Bullock County Education Retirees/Support Personnel Association has been active during the summer. In June, the group met to plan activities for the 2025–26 school year. On July 16, members attended the AERA Annual District Meeting, held at Eastmont Baptist Church in Montgomery. On August 4, members attended the Bullock County School System Institute Program.

Tropical Luau brings joy to Midway Nutrition Site’s July birthday celebration

The Midway Nutrition Site marked its July birthdays with a lively celebration on July 25. The event was made even more memorable by a visit from We Do Care, LLC, whose team shared essential tips on staying safe in extreme heat and preventing heat strokes. Their presentation was both timely and well-received by attendees.

Bullock County Health Department hosts open house for ADPH’s 150th anniversary

The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) marked its 150th anniversary with a community open house at the Bullock County Health Department on Friday, August 8. The event ran from 9 a.m. to noon, offering residents a chance to explore the services and programs available through the department.

Union Springs Police Report: Robbery investigation underway

Staff Reports

The Union Springs Police Department experienced a fairly uneventful week, noting seven citations issued, two accident reports handled, and one internal operations complaint filed. In addition, officers arrested Jakobe Smith on charges of marijuana possession.

However, a robbery occurred at the Liberty convenience store and remains under active investigation.

Rain couldn’t dampen the spirit at Camo Kids Annual Youth Summit

Despite rainy conditions, Camo Kids hosted its Annual Back-to-School Youth Summit at Harris Park in Midway on Tuesday, July 29. The event offered youth both education and empowerment, covering topics such as healthy relationships, financial literacy, anti-bullying, love wins, and archery. To receive school supplies, participants had to complete each of the topic sessions, reinforcing that knowledge comes before reward.

Union Springs Police Investigate early morning robbery at May’s Liberty

In the early hours of Monday, August 4, the Union Springs Police Department responded to a robbery at May’s Liberty gas station.

According to reports, the suspects, described only as unknown males, fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash before officers arrived. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Officers secured the area and ensured the safety of store personnel and any nearby witnesses.
