Union Springs elects new Mayor and City Council member in runoff election

The citizens of Union Springs made their voices heard on Tuesday, September 23, as they voted in a closely contested runoff election that decided two key leadership positions for the city.

Ronald “Llep” Smith was elected as the new Mayor of Union Springs, narrowly defeating mayoral candidate Brian Agnew by just six votes. The razor-thin margin underscored the importance of every ballot cast in shaping the city’s future.

Weekly Police Report: Union Springs focuses on safety and accountability

In last week’s Union Springs Police Department report, a correction is needed. Cpl. K. Lewis was not arrested as previously stated. Instead, he was the arresting officer in the cases involving Jamario Harris and Racquel Echols.

This week, the Union Springs Police Department has continued working diligently to keep the community safe and maintain order.

New Direction Childcare Facility celebrates four-star achievement

New Direction Childcare Facility has reached an exciting new milestone by earning a Four-Star Rating in the Alabama Quality STARS Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). This marks a significant step forward for the center, which previously held a Three-Star Rating.

Diamond has spent most of her young life at the Bullock County Humane Society, and staff and volunteers can’t understand why. Despite being a sweet, affectionate dog with so much love to give, she continues to be overlooked by adopters.

The joint annual meeting and luncheon of the Tourism Council of Bullock County (TCBC) and the Bullock County Chamber of Commerce will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8,  at the First United Methodist Church in Union Springs.

18-Wheeler overturns on Highway 110 in Fitzpatrick

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 17, an 18-wheeler overturned on Highway 110 in Fitzpatrick, Alabama. According to reports, the truck was hauling a heavy load of wood chips when it rolled over.

The driver sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by LifeFlight to a nearby hospital for treatment. Cleanup operations lasted nearly five hours as crews worked to clear the roadway.

Y. C. Nance Memorial Sports Foundation hosts 20th Annual Y. C. Nance Bullock County Achievers Awards Banquet

The Y. C. Nance Memorial Sports Foundation celebrated a milestone on Sunday, September 21, with its 20th Annual Y. C. Nance Bullock County Achievers Awards Banquet. The event, held at South Highlands Middle School, welcomed Representative Anthony Daniels as this year’s guest speaker.

Union Springs Police Department weekly report

The Union Springs Police Department continues its efforts to protect and serve the community, with officers handling multiple reports and cases over the past week.

Police Chief Johnny L. Potts, III filed two incident observation reports following a walk-in complaint. He also recorded one additional incident observation report later in the week.
