For the past decade, community activist Shirley Reynolds has been making sure local children head back to school with the supplies they need to succeed. This year marked a special milestone as Reynolds hosted the 10th Annual Back-to-School Picnic in the Highlog/Greenwood Community of Fitzpatrick, bringing together families, volunteers, and supporters for a day of food, fellowship, and giving back.

The Ka'Shaad Hurts Memorial Scholarship Foundation is preparing to help local families get ready for the new school year by hosting its Annual Back-to-School Giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026. The event will begin at 12 p.m. at the home of Sam and B.J. Benton, located at 305 Chunnenuggee Ave. in Union Springs.

The Union Springs Police Department continues its efforts to protect and serve the community through daily patrols, investigations, and responding to incidents throughout the city. According to the department’s latest weekly activity report, several officers handled a variety of calls, while others reported no incidents during their assigned shifts.
Jackie is a sweet and affectionate young dog looking for a family to call her own. Although she can be a little shy when meeting new people, it doesn’t take long for her gentle personality to shine through once she’s shown a little love and attention.
Jackie arrived at the Bullock County Humane Society in September 2025 with her brother, Mickie, and sister, who has since found her forever home. Jackie and Mickie continue to share a kennel while they patiently wait for families of their own.

The Red Door Theatre reached a special milestone this summer as its latest production, “Two Witches, No Waiting,” brought laughter, mystery, and Southern charm to audiences during a sold-out four-day run. The comedy was performed from Thursday, July 23, through Sunday, July 26, with the final show marking the theatre’s 75th locally produced play.

Family, friends, supporters, and community leaders gathered Sunday, July 19, at The Tin Can to celebrate the election of Sheriff-Elect Roderick “Pickle” Rover during a special congratulatory reception held in his honor. Although Rover will not officially assume the office of Bullock County Sheriff until January 2027, the event provided an opportunity for residents to congratulate him on his recent election and wish him success as he prepares to lead the Sheriff’s Office.
