Two nights, one goal: candidates pitch plans for the future of Union Springs, Midway

The Candidates for Union Springs Mayor and City Council were invited to two Meet the Candidates Forums. The first forum was held on August 10, at 3:00 p.m. by the Bullock County Branch of the NAACP#5066, which was also streamed live on Facebook, and the second was held on August 17, at 5:00 p.m. by the Bullock County Voters’ League.

While most candidates were present for the first meeting, not all were present for the second.

Bullock County Art Guild discusses future, elects new treasurer

The Bullock County Art Guild held its monthly meeting on Thursday, August 7, at noon at the Josephine Art Café. Members addressed several important topics, including leadership, the future of the Guild, and potential community involvement in local schools.

Union Springs Elementary School is starting the academic year on a high note, thanks to its dedicated cafeteria staff. The team recently earned a perfect score of 100 on their health inspection, reflecting their commitment to cleanliness, safety, and providing quality meals for students.

Preserving our family stories together

I am excited to share that I will be visiting the area from Monday, August 25, through Thursday, August 28, and I warmly invite the community to join me in celebrating the history and legacy of our families. Bullock County Humane Society pet of the week!

Yasine, a playful and affectionate young dog, is still waiting for someone special to come and meet her. At just 2–3 years old, this sweet girl is full of energy, loves other dogs, and is eager to be your best friend.

Recently, Yasine enjoyed a break from her kennel to run and play in the yard, happily soaking up attention from volunteers Jo Anna and Jan. She’s up to date on vaccinations, spayed, heartworm negative, and on flea and heartworm prevention.

Bullock County Humane Society pet of the week!

Sweetie has been patiently waiting for her forever family at the Bullock County Humane Society for over two years.

This gentle, affectionate dog dreams of having a soft bed to sleep on and someone to snuggle with. She arrived at the shelter on August 1, 2023, after being found as a stray left on the side of the road in a Bullock County community.

Union Springs City Council addresses employment approvals, sidewalk project, and service recognition

The Union Springs City Council met on Monday, August 4, in the Bullock County Courthouse basement. The meeting opened with a prayer led by Don Larkins, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance recited by all in attendance.

All council members were present except Latesha Howard. The agenda was approved, and with no old business to discuss, the council moved into new business items.

Education retirees stay connected and active over summer

The Bullock County Education Retirees/Support Personnel Association has been active during the summer. In June, the group met to plan activities for the 2025–26 school year. On July 16, members attended the AERA Annual District Meeting, held at Eastmont Baptist Church in Montgomery. On August 4, members attended the Bullock County School System Institute Program.
