Pritchard received 25 year pin

Joellen Gray Pritchard, a funeral director at Gray Funeral Home in Union Springs, AL, received her pin for 25 years of service in the funeral industry at the 137th Convention of the Alabama Funeral Directors Association that was held at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, AL on Tuesday, June 18.

BC citizens urged to attend July Historical meeting to learn about Native American Heritage

The Josephine Arts Center hosted a pine needle basket workshop conducted by an expert-craftsman attended by several people including local artist Sheila Brooks. The group was given hands-on instructions and made their first basket. Brooks’ interest grew and has a passion to continue and promote the art of pine needle basket making.

Controlling Mexican bean beetle in home gardens

The Mexican bean beetle is a native of Mexico and has caused economic damage and plant injury in many southwestern states. Today it is posing a problem for home gardeners all around. The Mexican bean beetle first appeared in Alabama in 1918 and quickly spread covering the entire east coast, from Florida to New England. The Mexican bean beetle does the most damage during the months of July and August. Its favorite crops are snap beans, soybean leaf, runner beans, green beans, string beans, lima beans, and cowpeas.

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the week!

It’s Kitty Education Week, so please pay close attention. By now you have all been reading our posts and know it’s kittens and puppy season here in Bullock County, but do you know how to tell how old that sweet crying baby you found in the bushes, under the house, in the barn, actually is? What we consider “tiny babies” are anything under four weeks of age. These are the kittens that are most critical to be left with their mothers. Preferably, you would want to leave them alone until weaned and eight weeks of age.

Olympic Hurdler has Bullock County ties

Bullock County Alabama has always been at the forefront of history. In May 1961 the Rev. Martin Luther King visited Perote High School to encourage young people to get involved in the Civil Rights movement. One of Perote’s distinguished students was Charles Cox. When young Cox attended Perote, students graduated after the 10th grade. Cox went on to graduate from College and have a successful business career and raise a successful family.
