Union Springs continues to gain statewide attention as both WSFA and WAKA News recently visited the city to cover stories highlighting the community’s connection to the newly released novel Judge Stone, co-authored by James Patterson and Viola Davis.

Dutchess has been waiting patiently for a loving home, and the Bullock County Humane Society is asking the community to help her find the family she deserves.
Dutchess arrived at the shelter on July 1, 2023, just before the Fourth of July holiday. Now about four years old and weighing around 55 pounds, this solid white “baby hippo” is known by staff and volunteers as a true love bug.

As someone who lives in Bullock County, reading Judge Stone by James Patterson and Viola Davis felt a little different than reading most novels. From the very beginning, I found myself recognizing the rhythms of small-town life and the way the authors captured the spirit of a place like Union Springs.
