Landing zone being built

In an effort to better serve the citizens of Bullock County during critical emergencies, Bullock County Commission, Bullock County Hospital, and Haynes Ambulance Service are working together to build a landing zone for helicopters.

The landing zone will be located beside Fresenius Dialysis Clinic, which is a very short distance from the Bullock County Hospital Emergency Room. The lot is owned by BC Hospital. Bullock County Commission is bringing in foundation dirt for the pad.

Chilly’s Band receives first place

Çhilly’s ICE Cool Band participated in the George Washington Carver's Arts and Crafts Festival in Tuskegee, Alabama, and was voted Best Band in the parade. Shown in the picture with the 1st Place Trophy, the Chilly's ICE Cool Band is proud of its accomplishments this season.

DHR hosts Job Fair

The Bullock County Department of Human Resources (DHR) hosted their annual Job Fair on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the Bullock County Career Technical Center. The event lasted from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. with over twenty vendors present offering job opportunities and educational services. Robin Franklin, Jobs Case Manager for DHR, estimated that they should receive between seventy five to one hundred job seekers during this year's event.

USDA to grant disaster aid requested by AL Gov. Ivey related to freezing weather in March; farmers from designated counties may be eligible for aid

Farmers in a number of Alabama counties whose crops were negatively impacted by the freezing temperatures experienced March 18-20 may be eligible for special disaster relief granted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey and Commissioner Rick Pate of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries (ADAI) both announced that a request for a disaster declaration has been approved by USDA Sec. Vilsack.

Putnam receives Alabama 4-H Foundation Scholarship

Lott Putnam, son of Kelly and Midge Putnam, is a Bullock County 4-H member and the Alabama 4-H Foundation Scholarship recipient. Lott will attend the University of Mobile in the fall, majoring in Kinesiology. “4-H projects and activities enriched my life beyond my regular academic education. 4-H is fun, but more importantly, it expanded my world outside of Bullock County. 4-H activities gave me more confidence for the future and taught me not by listening, but by doing.” Lott Putnam expressed.

Lampley Graduates with Honors

Jaden Lampley graduated with Honors from Columbia High School, an International Baccalaureate World School, on May 26, 2023. Lampley is a Junior Member of the Auxiliary Unit #337 and was recognized as a distinguished Eagle Battalion JROTC Cadet. She has completed all four years of the program with distinction.

Now Hiring - Diversity in the workplace

Imagine a work environment representing five generations. We often think of race when discussing diversity; however, diversity is more than race. Our country could use help when dealing with race-related issues, but the same can be said about generational diversity and its issues. At the risk of being stereotypical or putting people in a box, I want to discuss generational diversity using these groups:

• Greatest Generation: Born 1901-1924- My grandmother Helen

• Silent Generation: Born 1925-1945.- My friend Mr. Burch
