Annual Bullock County Senior Citizen Fishing Derby set for September 13

Do you know someone aged 60 or older who would enjoy a relaxing day of fishing while taking in the beauty of nature? The Annual Bullock County Senior Citizen Fishing Derby, presented by Camo Kids, is the perfect opportunity!

This year’s event will take place this Saturday, September 13, at the scenic Wehle Nature Center, located at 4819 Pleasant Hill Road, Midway. The gates will open at 7:00 a.m., and fishing begins at 8:00 a.m. The weather is expected to be perfect for a day outdoors.

Two stolen vehicles recovered as Union Springs officers tackle multiple cases

The Union Springs Police Department had an eventful week, responding to multiple incidents and making progress on several cases.

According to Chief Johnny L. Potts III, officers handled a range of calls and investigations throughout the week. Chief Potts himself responded to one private property accident and completed an incident/offense report for assault in the third degree.

Operation We Remember honors veterans lost to suicide

As part of Alabama’s Operation We Remember campaign—a powerful statewide initiative honoring veterans lost to suicide—the Honor Our Veterans Committee of America 250 Alabama is proud to join this important effort. Operation We Remember includes participants from colleges, high schools, community groups, and civic organizations across the state. Each participant will display 139 American flags, representing the Alabama veterans who tragically died by suicide in 2023.

Local churches show unwavering support as Conecuh Springs begins 24th school year

We are thrilled to announce the successful start of Conecuh Springs Christian School's 24th year, thanks to the incredible support from our community churches! Before the school bells rang, members of First Baptist Church (FBC) generously volunteered their time to ensure our campus was ready. They tackled bulletin boards, helped unpack and sort books, tidied flower beds, and completed other last-minute preparations.

Conservation coordinators meet in Bullock County

The Bullock County Soil and Water Conservation District recently hosted a quarterly training for the Area IV District Administrative Coordinators at the Bullock County Business Center.

The coordinators represented Bullock, Coosa, Dallas, Lee, Macon, Perry, and Tallapoosa counties. Jay Moorer, owner of the Union Springs Home Center, presented a very informative presentation on garden and soil preparation.

Historic start for Hornets football

Before the first weekend of September, Bullock County had its third consecutive home game facing the St. James Trojans. They had to compete without their starting running back, Brayden Youngblood (ankle injury). The Hornets’ Head Coach, Jeremy Vines, stated his approach for the team despite missing their explosive back was, “Do what we do well. Run the ball, trust the big guys up front. Do the best we can to play great defense and finish the game strong.”
