The Union Springs Police Department continued its efforts to maintain public safety throughout the city during the past week, with officers responding to accidents, serving warrants, and conducting traffic enforcement.
According to the department's weekly activity report, Sgt. Cummings had no incidents to report during the week.
Cpl. Gary Lewis served one warrant and handled one incident/offense (I/O) report.

This week’s Pet of the Week is Bussie, a sweet and resilient pit mix who is hoping to find a loving family to call her own. Bussie arrived at the Bullock County Humane Society on Dec. 17, 2025, with a case of mange. Thanks to proper care and treatment, she has made a remarkable recovery and is now mange-free. Her beautiful tan and black coat has grown back, and shelter staff says she is healthier and happier than ever.

Community leaders, attorneys, and residents gathered recently to celebrate the grand opening of The Law Shop Alabama with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Union Springs.
The event marked the opening of a new law office founded by attorney Rachel Payton. Payton brings experience in business law, project management, and community development and has established her practice in Bullock County with a focus on serving entrepreneurs and small businesses.

A tragic accident in a Bullock County work zone claimed the life of a longtime Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) employee on Thursday, May 28. According to ALDOT officials, Amad R. Jackson, 48, was performing routine maintenance duties along Alabama State Route 51 when he was struck by a dump truck. Jackson sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to those injuries.
