Bullock County Art Guild held monthly meeting

The Bullock County Art Guild held their monthly meeting on July 6, at noon at the Josephine Coffee/Cafe. Guild members who attended the meeting enjoyed a light lunch of Chicken Salad Sandwiches. During Art Share Joyce Perrin, Art Guild President, shared her latest wood burned/color pencil art of a Fox which was done on a large piece of local wood.

DYW Orientation Set for July 17

The Distinguished Young Women of Bullock County will hold an orientation meeting for this year's program on Monday, July 17 beginning at 5:15 p.m. at First Baptist Church located at 105 Prairie Street North in Union Springs. All interested participants must attend with a guardian. Participants must be entering their senior year of high school and reside in Bullock County.

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

Hi everyone! My name is Gigit! I’m a playful young boy, who’s already been neutered. I have my rabies and vaccines and am ready for a loving home. Did I mention I’m “playful,” which means if there’s not plenty of fun toys around the house, you may want to let me out a few hours a day so I could maybe catch a mouse or two! I still want to come inside in the evenings as I dream of a home, where I can sleep on the bed and snuggle for long cat naps on weekends. It’s Christmas in July at the Bullock County Humane Society!

Bullock County children develop confidence in reading, and other skills while attending Freedom School enrichment program

Children in Bullock County are taking part in a special reading and enrichment program this summer. The Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School strives to make a huge impact in the lives of the children–who they call scholars–who attend the yearly program.

Bullock County Board of Education’s Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School (CDFFS) Executive Director Gloria Batts says, “This is an empowering program designed to reach kids and instill in them a love of reading.”

Ezekiel Elliot special guest at Camp 2023

Current free agent and former Dallas Cowboy Ezekiel Elliott was the special guest at Hornets Nation Football Camp on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Former Bullock County basketball player Joe Johnson organized the event. The company he works for in Houston, TX, works with big named clients like Elliott.

Johnson gave back to his community by organizing this camp and providing a pro football player to teach the kids of Bullock County how to play ball.

Bullock County Commission awards road project contract, honors influential resident’s life and legacy

The Bullock County Commission met for its regular session on Tuesday, June 27, in the basement of the Bullock County Courthouse.

The county commission held its prayer and pledge of allegiance and then moved on to pay a touching tribute to one of Bullock County’s most beloved citizens, Annie Seail Tarver Tatum, who recently passed away on June 12, at the age of 96.

BCHS Cheerleaders hold Bag-A-Thon Fundraiser at local grocers

The month of July has started off successfully for the Bullock County High School Cheerleaders. On Saturday,  July 1, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., they held a Bag-A-Thon Fundraiser at both the local Piggly Wiggly and the Associated Grocers stores.

Under the supervision of their Coach, Ranita Holmes, the Cheerleaders bagged groceries and helped customers for tips to help fund their activities this year.
