Local hot spot burns in early morning fire

What was known as “The Sugar Shack” in the Ponderosa Community, caught fire in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 8, according to Fire Chief Rob Cameron. This is an ongoing investigation by the State Fire Marshal and the Union Springs Police Department. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Union Springs Police Department at (334) 738-3131.

City Sophisticate Boutique celebrates 5 years of business

What started out as a small corner selling the owner’s personal pre-owned clothing, in her venue hall, has turned into a blossoming five-year business! Nazareth Thornton, owner of City Sophisticate Boutique was celebrated last Thursday, December 5 by the Bullock County Chamber of Commerce as well as the community who frequent her store.

Bullock County Humane Society pet of the week!

Buckie came to the shelter during the end of hunting season in Bullock County, when so many souls get dumped or left behind as a stray. Buckie found his way to a home that brought him to the shelter. He is a male hound mix and shares a kennel with Friday.

Buckie was right at a year old when he was brought to the shelter and now has spent nine months in the shelter. He is up to date with his shots and one-year rabies vaccination and has been blessed to be heartworm-negative. He is on flea and heartworm prevention.

Bullock County Art Guild celebrates Christmas

The Bullock County Art Guild held its December meeting, hosted by Kathy Capps at her lovely early 1900s farmhouse in Fort Davis.  Guild members arrived at a porch guarded by two four-foot-tall nutcrackers. Kathy’s house was beautifully decorated for Christmas with a tree in her living room and another in her dining room. The aroma of hot spiced tea filled the kitchen as guests had simmering mugs before lunch.

The event, held at the Ponderosa, honored Rosa Parks' enduring legacy and her pivotal role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement.

LifeSouth asks blood donors to help save a life this Giving Tuesday. Visit a LifeSouth donor center or blood mobile, all blood donors donating with LifeSouth now through December 15 will receive a $20 e-gift card and a special holiday t-shirt.

LifeSouth is the primary supplier for most of our local hospitals.  Hospitals rely on LifeSouth and LifeSouth blood donors to make sure blood is available before it is needed to help patients suffering from traumas, cancers and chronic illnesses.

Chunnenuggee Garden Club invites public to Bullock County Christmas Tree Lighting

The Chunnenuggee Garden Club is sponsoring this year’s tree-lighting ceremony at the request of County Commission Chairman Alonza Ellis, Jr. The ceremony will be held on Friday, December 6, at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Bullock County Courthouse.
