78th Annual Candlelight Christmas Service

By Barbara McLaurine

The Union Springs Presbyterian Church will be holding the annual Candlelight Christmas Program on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24, at 7 p.m.  The program honors the reason for the season, the birth of Jesus.

Members of the Church returning from WWII were so thankful for their safe return that they felt the establishment of the program was a fitting way to thank God for that safe return.

By Darius L. Cates

On Friday, December 13th, Bullock County traveled down to Barbour County High School to face the Jaguars. It was a packed house with the bleachers filled up and every corner of the gymnasium crowded with fans standing. The Hornets were looking for their first win of the season. Why is there a stable in the yard at First Baptist Church?

By Mona Crawford, Secretary-First Baptist Church

Jesus is the reason we celebrate Resurrection Sunday - better known as Easter. His resurrection from the dead after He was crucified for your sins and mine!

Before His resurrection, our Holy God the Father sent His Son, Jesus to be born as a baby and Christmas is when we celebrate His birth. This amazing, wonderful story can be found in the Holy Bible, in the Gospels. The book of Luke in chapter 2 is one of the best-known explanations of His birth.

Bullock County Humane Society pets of the week!

Cass and his sister Cassie are a “Bonded Pair” and need to be adopted together. These two have been together their entire lives and we are truly hoping to keep them together for the rest of their lives. They were declawed by their former owner, who had to surrender the pair because of a change in her lease that no longer allowed her to keep pets. It was a sad day for the previous owner and our shelter as we are opposed to ever declawing an animal, as it is not only traumatic physically, but the cat will forever be special needs and unable to protect themselves.

Christmas Crack is a sweet, salty, and crunchy treat made with crackers, caramel, and chocolate. This is a favorite of my family and friends. This can be made with so many different ingredients. It all is in preference to what you like.

Here's an easy recipe for Christmas Crack:

Ingredients

40 saltine crackers (or enough to line a baking sheet)

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

The life of Union Springs resident Demetric Thompkins was taken from him in the late hours of Saturday, December 7. According to a family member, an altercation between Thompkins and the alleged shooter started inside a local bar in the Ponderosa Community of Bullock County and escalated when they were outside. This is when the alleged gunman shot Thompkins. We reached out to law enforcement who was unavailable at the time of publication; however, this is an ongoing investigation.
