Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, of Midway, was reportedly vandalized sometime after services concluded on Sunday, May 10, Mother’s Day.
According to reports, a brick was thrown through the church’s front window, allowing the perpetrator or perpetrators to gain entry into the building. Commissioner Don Larkins later replaced the damaged window.

A young athlete from Union Springs is preparing to represent Alabama on the national stage this summer as Bryson Hood and his travel baseball team from Pike Road advance to the World Series in Gulf Shores this June.
According to Bryson’s mother, Megan Daniel, the team is currently the only Alabama team competing in the tournament. Bryson, a resident of Union Springs, is excited for the opportunity to compete alongside his teammates against teams from across the country.

Commission Chairman Alonza Ellis, Jr. hosted the 2026 Older Americans Month event on Friday, May 8, at the Richard B. Stone Armory in Union Springs. The program was held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and brought together local seniors and community leaders for a morning of recognition, fellowship, and encouragement.
The Bullock County Humane Society is urgently seeking a loving home or foster placement for Raggedy, a young dog currently experiencing kennel stress while staying at the shelter.
Raggedy arrived at the shelter on July 1, 2024, and staff members say he is a sweet and affectionate dog who would thrive in a caring environment. According to the shelter, Raggedy has begun constantly licking his kennel, which can be a sign of stress caused by long-term shelter living.

Union Springs Elementary School is the recipient of an innovative grant titled Breaking Barriers, Building Scholars, designed to strengthen student achievement and digital literacy through expanded access to instructional technology and meaningful digital learning experiences for students at Union Springs Elementary School.

In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, Tyler’s Food Shop showed its gratitude to local educators by donating bags of chips to teachers and staff members at two area schools on May 6 and 7.
The schools honored included George Washington Carver Elementary School in Tuskegee and Union Springs Elementary School in Union Springs.

The Bullock County Art Guild held its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at noon at the Josephine Event Center in Union Springs. Members in attendance included President Joyce Perrin, Vice President Larry Stewart, Secretary Linda Reynolds, Treasurer Sheila Brooks, member Walt Spratlan, and new member Lynn Bradley.

Residents of Union Springs came together on Monday, May 4, for the monthly Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, held at the Union Springs/Bullock County Community Center.
The program, which began at 7:00 a.m. and concluded at 7:50 a.m., centered on faith, unity, and community reflection. The theme scripture, “But the word of God grew and multiplied” (Acts 12:24), set the tone for the morning’s gathering.
