The Bullock County Art Guild met at the Josephine Event Center on North Prairie Street in Union Springs on Thursday, July 9, at noon. The meeting was held one week later than the Guild's regular first Thursday schedule due to members traveling during the America 250 and Fourth of July celebrations.

The Union Springs Police Department continued its commitment to serving and protecting the community during the past week, responding to several incidents and accidents throughout the city.
According to the department's weekly activity report, Sgt. Cummings handled one incident report and investigated one private property accident. Captain Gary Lewis responded to one incident/offense (I/O) report and one traffic accident.
The Bullock County Humane Society is searching for a loving forever home and a generous heartworm treatment sponsor for Willy, a friendly young shepherd mix who has been waiting patiently for his second chance. Willy, approximately 2½ years old, arrived at the shelter on Dec. 6, 2024. Weighing between 45 and 50 pounds, he is described as a medium- to high-energy dog who enjoys staying active and would thrive in a home where he can receive daily exercise and plenty of attention.
The Bullock County Humane Society is searching for a loving forever home for Archie, a friendly shepherd mix who is ready to leave shelter life behind and become part of a family.
Archie arrived at the shelter on Nov. 10, 2025, and has been patiently waiting for someone to give him a second chance. Estimated to be around 5 years old, Archie is a tan shepherd mix weighing approximately 58 pounds. Shelter staff describe him as a very friendly dog with plenty of personality.

The monthly Mayor's Prayer Breakfast brought community members together on Monday, July 6, for a morning of fellowship and prayer at Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church in Troy, Alabama, which is also located within Bullock County.
The breakfast began at 7:00 a.m., welcoming 22 members of the community who gathered to pray for the needs of the city, county, state, and nation.

Judging for The Front Porch 250th USA Anniversary Decorating Contest took place on Friday, July 3, and included all preregistered residents and businesses. Additional homes and businesses that were not registered also displayed decorations in celebration of the July 4th holiday. Rural areas had bunting displays on entrance gates and flags flying on poles.

The Union Springs Police Department reported an uneventful Fourth of July holiday weekend as residents gathered to celebrate Independence Day festivities across the city.
According to the department's weekly activity report, officers responded to a limited number of calls while maintaining a visible presence throughout the holiday weekend.
Cpl. Lewis handled three reports and issued one traffic warning during the reporting period.
