Virginia Braswell named to “The 87” by Troy University

Virginia Braswell of Mathews, AL, has been selected by Troy University as a member of "The 87".

The 87, formerly Who's Who, recognizes juniors, seniors and graduate students who have excelled in campus leadership and in their academic area. Selections are made based on academic standing, community service, leadership ability and potential for continued success.

Chilly’s ICE Cool Band holds Banquet for band members

Chilly’s ICE Cool Band has been very busy this holiday season. They marched in the Montgomery Turkey Day Parade, performed in the Talent show in Barber County, marched in the Brundidge Christmas Parade as well as the televised Montgomery Christmas Parade, and the Hurtsboro parade. They still have a few more events scheduled to participate in before the end of the year, including Chilly’s 2nd Annual Christmas Lights Parade here in Union Springs on Thursday, December 14th at 6 p.m.

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

This handsome fella is named “Yella.” He was found living on streets and the homeowners who found him, called the Bullock County Humane Society because he liked to dig stuff up and chew on anything that looked like a toy! He was bored on the streets with no one to play with and was just in survival mode, but now he is safe. Yella needs a home now! He will be a medium to large dog. Yella has a pretty red coat and is cute as a button . He gets along with other dogs and loves people.

Annual Candlelight Christmas Service to be held

The Presbyterian Church’s Annual Candlelight Christmas Service was originally put together by soldiers, who were also members of the church, who wanted to express their gratitude for a safe return home from World War II. So, a new tradition was created and has continued since then. During the Covid-19 pandemic a small number of members held the service to keep the tradition alive.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony held at Courthouse

At the request of the Chairman of the Bullock County Commission, Alonza Ellis, Jr., the Chunnenuggee Garden Club was host for a ceremony for lighting the county Christmas tree at the Courthouse on November 30, 2023.
